Fremont, CA dentist describes benefits of CEREC restorations
Crowns, bridges, and veneers are restorations commonly enjoyed by Starbrite Dental patients. Dr. Munira Lokhandwala and her team provide these and other services, which allow patients to address problems affecting the appearance and function of their smiles. Fremont, CA area patients benefit from same-day restorations, thanks to the practice’s investment in CEREC equipment.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is a CAD/CAM software system and device used to fabricate restorations right in the dental office, with little waiting time. In a traditional dental setting, patients wait weeks for their restorations to be completed at an outside dental laboratory. A series of impressions is made and sent to the lab, often states away, for fabrication of a crown, bridge, or other restoration. Patients have a “temporary” placed until their new restoration arrives back at the dental office, to be bonded in place. This process is dramatically compressed with the use of CEREC technology.
How same day restorations work
When visiting Starbrite Dental, patients discuss the need for restorations with Dr. Lokhandwala. If it is determined the patient needs treatment, preparations are made to the smile. This may include filing down of natural tooth structure. Digital impressions are taken and supplied to a robust software application. A special device precisely mills the new restoration from a block of porcelain, right in the office. Approximately 20 minutes later, the patient has a new crown, bridge, or veneer bonded in place.
