When should I choose Veneers?

Veneers are an amazing dental treatment used in different situations. Veneers are often prescribed to patients with discolored or darkened teeth and are also ideal for those who have crooked or misaligned teeth. In addition, veneers have been considered by dentists to be ideal for teeth which have been discolored as a result of large scale fillings with materials like composite resin. In such cases, a veneer will perform the function of protecting the teeth from breaking down or getting more cavities. Furthermore, veneers are occasionally used to help patients increase the length of their teeth.

Depending on the type of veneer, the time taken to undergo the procedure varies. For example, if a patient is prescribed a composite resin veneer, it will only take one appointment. In contrast, if it is a porcelain veneer, then it might take two to three appointments. On some occasions, the number of appointments may be extended to four in order to check on things like speech and how the bite feels.

The procedures involving the placement of veneers are pain-free and done with care by the dentist. If patients require only a minimal amount of the tooth to be removed, there will be no anesthesia because there will be no pain. If, however, an entire tooth structure is to be removed, then dentists will administer an anesthetic to make the patient feel more comfortable during the procedure. Even after the procedure, patients will not feel any type of discomfort or pain.

The risks associated with veneer placement procedures depend solely on the procedure and the expertise of the dentist. For example, in a situation of minimal tooth preparation, the risk is zero. However, if a tooth is crooked or significant reduction of the tooth is necessary, then patients can end up with sensitivity for some time. Or, if the nerve has been traumatized, a root canal will be necessary. But, if proper principles are followed, the risks become non-existent.

The costs associated with veneer placement procedures vary with the material used. For composite resin veneers, the cost is $650, while for porcelain ones the costs can range from $1350 to $1500. Insurance coverage solely depends on the reasons for this procedure. If it’s done for cosmetic benefits, then coverage is not provided.
